Enhanced Platform Development for a Major Culinary Client in the US

The client provides dining services to consumers and public and private organizations including school nutrition, residential and healthcare dining, prepared meals, corporate dining, vending services and emergency dining. The client was looking to build a platform that would help schools to track in-house inventory, sales, and revenue.

As a result of an assessment, Fulcrum helped the client identify key areas of both their IT and Business Operations that were prime for Digital Transformation. A platform was built as the foundation. 

CulinarySuite’s menuing module ensured that all meals prepared were nutritionally USDA compliant.   
Accurate food management application prevented food operations from increasing expenses year over year.

Our Story

This platform acted as a key integration point for multiple lines of business. A dashboard was created for the sales team to leverage real time information regarding current inventory in stock, operational costs (budget vs actual), as well as profit and loss. 

USDA Compliant

Additionally, the recipes and ingredients of CulinarySuite integrates with the SR and CND USDA databases. Based on our proprietary menu rule engine which manages customizable USDA rules (NSLP, SBP, CACFP etc.), the system allowed the client to ensure that the menu planned and the meals served to the customers meets the government regulation

Through the various containersFulcrumOne delivers microservices for various business functionalities for specific domain led features like inventory management, recipe management and menu management for food services. This allowed the platform to have built-in agility and allow for integrations of additional modules with ease.

Results

The platform delivered an enhanced user experience by providing ease for users to manage inventory and place orders all within one platform. With the help of the tools used, the client could identify how users interacted with their application and developed new features at a rapid pace, such as a budgeting tool, contract manager, nutrition manager, menu/recipe program, and revenue program.  This platform was one of the earliest instances of the FulcrumOne approach to platform. 
Since the launch of the platform, revenue has increased by 26% and the number of meals sold by 21%. Client increased by 20% overall. Fulcrum continues to provide the client with the IT services and infrastructure capable of supporting the business agility and the strategic objectives.
